Raspberry Pi and 4G dongle access via Losant

Hi All,

I would like to access a number of raspberry Pi(s) each connected to 4G USB dongles remotely using Losant. Commands would sent from PC or mobile device. Is this the type of task Losant is suitable for? Forgive the basic question, just starting out.

Hello @Mike_Zomo,

Welcome to the Losant Forums! I do believe Losant would accomplish your task, and all you might need is a way to get data to and from your Raspberry Pi(s). This can be done a multitude of ways, but I will include relevant Pi content below, which usually includes MQTT. You say “commands would be sent from PC or mobile device,” do you have a way of sending these commands now? Or would Losant’s Device Commands likely be your way of sending (and possibly receiving)?

Here is some education content for the Pi:

Thanks!

Hi Julia,

Thanks for responding, I will look into all the references you gave. I was hoping to send command from or mobile via (routed) Losant. I want get around the need for port forwarding and like on the Raspberry Pi, due to the constraints set by the use of the 4G dongle.

Kind Regards

Hi @Mike_Zomo,

I think the Edge Agent will be your best bet, then using the cellular connection, commands could be sent to and from Losant and the Pis via MQTT.

Thanks,
Julia

Hi Julia,

Thanks once more.

Kind Regards
