# Payload path: pageData vs data

When I insert a variable at the path `data.X` in a workflow, the corresponding view shows the object appearing at the path `pageData.data.X`.

Is this expected/documented anywhere? I figured this out through trial and error but I’m concerned that I might have missed some important piece of documentation.
