# Communication between the Gateway Edge Agent and Losant

Hi there,  
I’m installing and edge compute device in an industrial environment with restricted internet access. I need to make sure the device can reach to Losant.

Does the GEA communicate to Losant via MQTT only?  
Which transport is it using?

- TCP— `mqtt://broker.losant.com:1883` ?
- TLS— `mqtts://broker.losant.com:8883` ?
- WebSockets— `ws://broker.losant.com:80` ?
- Secure WebSockets— `wss://broker.losant.com:443` ?

The Gateway Edge Agent uses MQTT over TLS:

TLS— `mqtts://broker.losant.com:8883`
